Revolver Cygnis Gold, Reference High End Loudspeakers

Following unanimous praise and the success of the
company's first reference model - the Cygnis - Revolver
positioned themselves worldwide as a serious designer of
very high quality, top-end loudspeakers. Now they have
taken a step further as they announce the arrival of their
most sophisticated loudspeaker system to date, the Cygnis Gold

The Cygnis Gold is the new flagship model in the Revolver range and is the result of intense research and
development and is a sophisticated, high quality, high resolution 'state of the art' design. The criteria for the Cygnis Gold was to design a 'no compromise', advanced performance loudspeaker with the combination of reference sound quality and distinctive styling. The remit was for the design to deliver a sonic quality akin to the best available yet still be accessible into most domestic
environments and offer discernible value for money.

CABINET DESIGN
The first step was to work on the cabinet design to result
in the optimum acoustic performance. It was decided that
the Cygnis Gold had to be a 'true' 3-way loudspeaker in order to best cover the desired full bandwidth seamlessly. The best way to deal with this was to design two totally independent and acoustically separate cabinets, to ensure reduced distortion between the drive units, resulting in increased neutrality and detail.

The housing cabinet for the tweeter and midrange units is resin-laminated with a angled
baffle for time alignment considerations. The bass frequencies are handled in an
incredibly sturdy 117 litre volume MDF cabinet with comprehensive internal bracing and
smooth corner radii. This is not just a purely aesthetic element, as it also reduces possible
defraction and panel resonance.

CROSSOVER
Crossover design is arguably one of the most crucial factors in the design of any high
performance loudspeaker. Perhaps one of the most radical and important aspects of the
Cygnis Gold is found in the crossover design. It was decided that to keep the performance
to the highest possible level, an external hard-wired crossover module was designed.
The high quality components used in the crossover are all specifically designed and
manufactured for Revolver, with a combination of solid silver and Chord silver-plated
wiring used. Crucially, the overall design of the crossover is low-component and minimum
phase but using the best available materials for a highly effective result. This external
crossover module also has tri-wire inputs for the best possible performance.

DRIVE UNITS
To confirm the Cygnis Gold's reference status, careful drive unit
selection was imperitive. The bass unit is a large 15” design,
required to achieve the low-frequency performance needed with
such a loudspeaker. It has a cast vented chassis with a shielded
double magnet system that utilises a 3” voice coil with a low
resonant frequency of 20Hz. The cone is a laminated honeycomb 2
layer design with a rubber 'long throw' roll utilised to glean the
lowest possible frequencies and accuracy of timing.
The midrange is handled by a 6.5” woven glass fibre, double
magnet unit and the tweeter is a very high quality, flat frequency 1”
soft dome to which the upper frequency response limit is set to
38kHz for higher resolution audio format compatibility.
The Cygnis Gold is set to further the reputation of Revolver as one of the leading UK
specialist loudspeaker manufacturers. A combination of high quality components and
drive units and intelligent cabinet design make for an open, detailed and involving sound
that befits its reference status.
